FKIP UNS is honored to host Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Barke from the University of Münster, Germany, for a special guest lecture titled “Water Chemistry with Hands-on Experiments for Students.” Prof. Barke is a distinguished chemistry educator known internationally for his work on misconceptions in chemistry and inquiry-based learning.
Date & Time: Tuesday, 21 April 2026, 08.30–11.30 WIB
Venue: 3rd Floor Hall, Building F, FKIP UNS
Mandatory for:
- 4th-semester students in Science Education
- 6th and 8th-semester students in Chemistry Education
Lecture Highlights:
This three-hour interactive session will focus on the chemistry of water, including topics such as water hardness, pH, solubility, and environmental water analysis. Unlike traditional lectures, this session emphasizes hands-on experimentation where participants will work with simple, low-cost materials to perform real-time chemical tests. Prof. Barke will demonstrate how to transform abstract concepts into engaging, student-centered activities suitable for secondary school classrooms.
Why Attend?
- Learn safe, effective experiments that can be replicated with minimal laboratory equipment.
- Understand common student misconceptions about water chemistry and how to address them.
- Gain teaching strategies that align with inquiry-based science education.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing suitable for light lab work. All materials will be provided.
